Free workshop for any adult who suffers from social anxiety:
Friday, July 24, 2020 7-9pm.

The purpose of this workshop is to help you understand what social anxiety is, what causes it, what perpetuates it, and some basic strategies to overcome it. The workshop is intended for persons who themselves suffer from social anxiety (also called social phobia): ie. a pattern of great discomfort and/or avoidance based on the fear that others may judge or reject you, or that you may embarrass yourself.

This will be an introductory, educational workshop, not a therapy session. You will not be required to talk or be put on the spot in any way during the workshop. The general approach we use is called cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT, also called cognitive behavior therapy or cognitive therapy): a practical, goal-focused approach to psychotherapy and counseling in which we help you learn and apply concrete strategies, skills and techniques for changing your thinking and behaviors in order to improve your mood, self-confidence and relationships.

The workshop will also provide a brief introduction to specialized 20-week social anxiety therapy groups, as well as individual CBT, which we offer for persons who wish to work in a systematic way to overcome their social anxiety and to achieve whatever other personal goals they choose for themselves. If there is enough interest, we offer one therapy group specifically for lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) individuals, and another group for the general public. If, after attending the workshop, you think you may be interested in either the group or individual CBT for social anxiety or related problems, then you would schedule a one-on-one session with me or my associate during which we can explore this further.

This workshop will be held online on Zoom.  YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR THIS WORKSHOP as space is limited. To register, visit this web page, socialanxietyhelp.com, or call Larry Cohen, LICSW, 202-244-0903. Zoom links will be provided after you register.
