Come see The Normal Heart on Thursday July 19th at 8:00 PM at Arena Stage. The story of a city in denial, The Normal Heart unfolds like a real-life political thriller--as a tight-knit group of friends refuses to let doctors, politicians and the press bury the truth of an unspoken epidemic behind a wall of silence A quarter-century after it was written, this outrageous, unflinching, and totally unforgettable look at the sexual politics of New York during the AIDS crisis remains one of the theatre's most powerful evenings ever. Arena Stage is proud to launch the national tour of this important and exhilarating work of theater. About the Author Larry Kramer witnessed the first spread of the disease that became known as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) among his friends in New York City in 1980, and he co-founded the Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), which has become the largest private organization to assist people living with AIDS in the world. Not content with the social services GMHC provided, Kramer expressed his frustration with bureaucratic paralysis and the apathy of gay men to the AIDS crisis by writing a play titled The Normal Heart which was first produced at The Public Theatre in New York City in 1985.
