On July 13, 2012 through Sunday July 15, 2012, the Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU) of the Metro Police Department core and affiliate members on the evening and midnight tours will increase outreach and crime prevention activities in the 1st, 5th and 6th Districts. While not all crimes can be prevented, there are safety protocols that individuals and groups can be educated on to prevent or mitigate criminal activity. The GLLU will use a combined targeted-patrol and outreach initiative to reduce crime and educate the community. The target areas are:
1st District: K St from North Capitol to 7th St NW.
5th District: Mt. Olivet Rd. & West Virginia Ave NE.
6th District: Eastern Ave from Southern Ave to Sheriff Rd NE.
These ride-alongs are an important outreach efforton behalf of the GLLU to increase community understanding of bias and hate crimes. To better educate yourself and stay up to date on bias and hate crimes news, find GLOV on Facebook and Twitter.
