The DC Center and the DC Coalition are proud to announce a new partnership this year. The DC Center serves as fiscal sponsor of the DC Coalition as the Coalition works toward becoming their own 501(c)3 organization.
"The DC Center is proud to support the work of the DC Coalition," stated David Mariner, Executive Director of the DC Center.
The DC Coalition was founded in 1978, when a group of individuals carefully and successfully spearheaded the struggle to end overt racist policies of many area gay bars. The DC Coalition now stands as the oldest Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) political, educational and social organization in the country. The DC Coalition seeks to promote the needs and aspirations of and celebrate the identity of Black LGBT men and women in the DC metropolitan area. It has served as a voice for thousands of men and women in the Black LGBT Community in the metropolitan DC area and around the country.
The DC Center and the DC Coalition have collaborated on a number of events recently, including the successful LGBT Contingent in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Parade last January and a Kwaanza celebration last December.
"The DC Coalition has a longstanding tradition of education and advocacy in the local community. We are proud to announce our new partnership with the DC Center. We know that we will accomplish much together in the coming years, and truly benefit our entire DC family" Ken Hopson, President, DC Coalition.
