Capturing Fire, the National Queer Spoken Word Summit and Slam, will take place May 30th through June 2nd in Washington DC.
Capturing Fire will include performance and writing workshops, panel discussions and networking and social opportunities. The summit will culminate in a poetry slam.
A poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they're saying and how they're saying it. Poets are judged by members of the audience on a scale from 1 to 10.
The slam is limited to 30 performers who identify as queer The summit is open to everyone.
