The DC Center is proud to welcome Ashley Smith to the DC Center Board of Directors. Ashley is one of eight new board members that begin their term this month. Ashley writes:
"I have been a DC resident for about 5 years, which has been a life changing experience and one in which I am grateful of. The move to DC area was the catalyst of my coming out experience to myself and my family, which has been a struggle. Reigning from Louisville, KY, by way of several cities over the years, being apart of the DC Community has been rewarding and a great journey. Being in Hospitality Management for years, has prepared me for the work I do in the community to serve all people in our community in DC or throughout the country.
Outside of recently joining the Board of the DC Center, I have been active and serve in leadership capacities with the Greater Washington DC HRC Steering Committee, the DC Coalition of Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered People, and several other community organizations within the DC Metro Area. I am delighted and excited to serve in this capacity and look forward in assisting the DC Center of LGBT as we move forward and grow in our community. Serving our community is critical part of my life and look forward to meeting each of you along my journey."
