The DC Community Coalition is currently looking for a Community Organizer to conduct outreach activities throughout the Washington Metro area.
Description: The DC Community Coalition Community Organizer is responsible for multi-modal communication and outreach to the Washington Metropolitan area providing information on key conferences and activities that will bring awareness to and work to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Washington DC. The Community Organizer will work approximately 20 hours per week, with increases closer to key events.
Job Duties:
- Organize and facilitate community outreach presentations throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area.
- Share information on local, national and global HIV/AIDS issues and their connection to Washington DC
- Track communication and contacts showing effectiveness of outreach
- Utilize state of the art social media to connect with the broadest definition of the Washington Metropolitan Community
- Utilize website to effectively communicate information and activities of the DC Community Coalition
- Represent the DCC with global, national, regional and local AIDS, AIDS housing, harm reduction, people of color, LGBT, antipoverty, faith community, public health and other local organizations and coalitions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Understanding of and commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Washington DC
- Top-level organizing, writing, supervision and teamwork skills;
- Commitment to development and promotion of leadership by people living with HIV/AIDS;
- Experience in writing, editing and electronic communications, including competence in current social media, database, web, and publishing software and hardware, including HTML as necessary;
- Ability to carry out culturally competent and racially aware organizing work - ability to speak Spanish and/or other languages a plus;
Compensation: This is a contract position with a commitment until August 31, 2012. May be extended pending further funding. Compensation commensurate with experience.
