Announcing our Fall Reception Honorees

The DC Center is proud to announce our honorees for the Fall Reception: D.C. June Crenshaw

June Crenshaw is an IT Project Manager for Coventry Health Care. She volunteers and serves the LGBT community in various capacities including Board Chair of Whitman-Walker Clinic, Board Co-Chair of Rainbow Response Coalition, a member of the Advisory Board of the DC Office of LGBT Affairs and facilitator of a women's Coming Out Group. She also served on the Community Advisory Board of Lesbian Services Programs and as Steering Committee member of Black Lesbian Support Group.

A passionate proponent of educating the LGBT community about rights and resources, June also celebrates her commitment to service by becoming a visible and active participant at many community meetings and events. In addition, she has volunteered for over 5 years with Heartly House, which provides comprehensive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence, rape/sexual assault and child abuse. June is a graduate of the University of Tulsa and has served as both a professional business consultant and researcher.

D.C. Allen

Since 1994, when he opened The Crew Club, D.C. Allen has been an active member of the Washington Gay Community. He opened The Club as a safe, clean space for gay men to work out and socialize. D.C.'s belief in the promotion of community and safe behavior for and by gay men has led him to work closely with the Metropolitan Police Department to establish the Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit. He has also worked with the District of Columbia Department of Health to establish a syphilis awareness campaign that helped reduce the spread of new transmissions by three to five percent.

For the last two years, D.C. was invited to participate in panel discussions at the annual conference of the National Alliance of State and Territorial Aids Directors. D.C. has been honored by several major gay organizations, including the Gay Rodeo Association, the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance and Brother Help Thyself, for his work with them and his ongoing support. He has been working with Terry Gerace for the past year in assuring that the Tool Kit/Fuk It Campaign is able to continue its good work.

City Council Member Jim Graham

Mr. Graham served as the Executive Director of Whitman-Walker Clinic from 1984 until the start of his service as a Councilmember. Jim Graham was first elected to the council representing ward 1 in 1998, and re-elected in 2002 and 2006. A graduate of Michigan State University, Jim Graham received a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School and an L.L.M. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Linda McAllister

Linda McAllister is the owner and operator of Lace Restaurant and Lounge. Linda opened Lace on November 15th, 2008 with the vision providing a safe space for women of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds to come together to dine, socialize, and dance. Linda has opened her door to a wide variety of LGBT non-profit organizations including: the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, DC Black Pride and Women In The Life.
